Attorney Johnny Lai has years of experience working both in and out of Greater Los Angeles area courtrooms, with clients of all backgrounds and ages. He focuses his practice on criminal defense, including misdemeanors, traffic matters, felony preliminary hearings, expungements, and civil restraining order hearings, but he has handled many different types of criminal cases.
He will take the time necessary to clearly explain your case’s charges, the court process, and possible defenses so that you will be able to assist in your own defense and make the most intelligent and informed decision you can about the resolution of your case.
Mr. Lai understands that criminal charges are often confusing and frightening to even the most intelligent and educated non-attorney. The sooner you have an attorney on your side, the easier it is to build a strong case and come to a successful resolution.
Attorney Johnny Lai graduated from the UCLA School of Law’s Public Interest Law Program. He became an attorney with the purpose of serving low-income and underserved communities and helping people assert and defend their Constitutional Rights.
He his Masters Degree from the Goldman School of Public Policy at U.C. Berkeley and his undergraduate degree from Pomona College in Claremont, CA.
Attorney Johnny Lai is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Indigent Criminal Defense Appointments program, which accepts conflict counsel appointments for the Los Angeles Superior Court.
He has been in private practice since 2002 and previously served as a Deputy Public Defender for the L.A. County Public Defender’s Office.
Mr. Lai’s community involvement has included: co-founder of the Arroyo Seco Greens, Secretary of the Pasadena-Foothill Chapter of the ACLU, and Board Member of the L.A. Police Watch.
