Attorney Joy Bertrand is consistently committed to service and social justice for all. She is an active professional member of various associations such as the State Bar of Wisconsin, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American Association for Justice, and American Inns of Court.
She served as a clerk for the Cook County Office of the Public Guardian while in law school. She handled trial court child abuse and neglect matters while working as a provisionally licensed attorney under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711.
She provided research and writing to the office’s long-term litigation unit for a federal lawsuit against the Department of Children and Family Services.
Attorney Joy Bertrand worked as the statewide coordinator of the Wisconsin Coalition Against the Death Penalty after completing law school. She later served as Assistant District Attorney at Milwaukee County from 1998 to 2005.
She won four federal jury trials as well as successfully litigated many Seventh Circuit appeals, including a Solicitor General appeal while on assignment with the US Attorney’s Office. Five cases among them resulted in published decisions.
