Kevin Mottley founded The Mottley Law Firm in 2009. His practice has grown largely by word of mouth from referrals in the legal profession and satisfied clients who know the soundness of his legal advice, his dedication to a client’s cause, and the effectiveness of his trial skills in court.
From his office in Richmond, Virginia, Mottley has dedicated his practice to handling personal injury cases for seriously injured clients, including those who have suffered a traumatic brain injury or other serious injury due to another person’s negligence.
He also represents people involved in family estate or business disputes, having handled and successfully resolved one of the most notorious, long-standing, and contentious estate and business disputes in Virginia history.
Whatever the subject matter, Mottley most enjoys the “David versus Goliath” case, in which the stakes are high and the odds difficult. This passion has been a constant thread and motivating force throughout his legal career.
In one such case, the national publication The American Lawyer featured Mottley’s handling of a race discrimination case in which Mottley and his family became the target of threats and intimidation from a racist hate group that objected to his litigation tactics.
Kevin Mottley is a 1993 graduate of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, where he was president of the University’s student body, Phi Beta Kappa, and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He was named Virginia Tech’s “Man of the Year” in 1993. Since graduation, he has remained active at Virginia Tech, serving on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association and on the Advisory Board to the University’s Division of Student Affairs.
Mottley is a 1996 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law where, in 1996, he won the prestigious William Minor Lile Moot Court Competition for his oral advocacy skills together with his partner, Lynne Solomon.
Past winners of this competition include the late Senator Edward Kennedy among many other notable jurists, trial lawyers and public servants.
