Partner Lori Colbert is a lifelong Alaskan. She is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College, where she earned an undergraduate degree in political science, and Willamette University College of Law, where she earned her law degree.
Lori joined Mendel & Huntington in September 1995, which evolved into Mendel & Associates in February 1997. She became a partner in Mendel & Associates, Inc. in 2013.
Lori served as co-chair of the Family Law Section of the Alaska Bar Association for eight years. She has also served as the Vice-President for the M. Ashley Dickerson Chapter of the National Bar Association.
Lori is very active in the American Bar Association Family Law Section, where she has served on the Continuing Legal Education Committee, Member Benefit Committee (member and co-chair) and the Diversity Committee (member, co-chair, vice-chair) and is also on the Council for the Family Law Section.
Lori is also a member of the Alaska Association of Collaborative Professionals and the International Association of Collaborative Professionals.
Lori’s practice focuses on family law. She has many years of trial experience in a range of family issues, including adoptions and family formation, surrogacy and other assisted reproduction technologies, divorce, child custody, child support, interstate custody, qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs), and Indian Child Welfare Act cases. She is also trained in mediation.
She has appeared on and moderated various panels for the Alaska Bar Association and for the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association. Lori’s “Hot Tip,” which was presented at the 2007 Annual Meeting, was published in an issue of The Practical Lawyer.
Lori has two daughters and two grandsons who keep her quite busy. Her community activities include involvement in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alaska Alumnae Chapter, and membership at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
