
J. Michael Bresnahan is an associate and business lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP, where he advises clients on CEA, SEC, CFTC, and tax matters, and provides regulatory and policy updates and strategic recommendations on responding to market changes. Mr. Bresnahan also manages clearing relationships for his clients and ensures compliance with all exchange and federal regulations of multiple countries and responds to exchange and federal investigations.
Mr. Bresnahan also has experience drafting and negotiating counterparty trading agreements, including ISDA Master Agreements, Compensation Agreements, and Credit Support Annexes.
He has worked with prime brokers to establish and maintain credit arrangements, including designation notices and customer-to-customer and four-way double give up agreements to trade OTC assets.
Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Bresnahan worked in house with a direct trading member of the CME Group exchanges, ICE Europe, ICE US, LIFFE, and Eurex. He also gained experience as a regulatory investigator with CBOE Futures Exchange.
Education :
Mr. Bresnahan received his law degree from Loyola University School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2013). He earned his master’s degree in business administration from Loyola University Chicago Quinlan School of Business (M.B.A., 2014). Mr. Bresnahan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Indiana University—Bloomington (B.S., 2010).
