Justin E. Loffredo focuses his practice on patent litigation before district courts and the International Trade Commission (ITC). His experience covers many aspects of litigation, including developing positions on infringement and validity; preparing expert witnesses for depositions and at trial; and drafting pleadings, motions, and pre- and post-trial briefs.
Justin also counsels clients across a wide range of technologies by rendering opinions on patent validity and freedom-to-operate. Justin’s patent practice focuses on litigation before district courts and the International Trade Commission (ITC), and strategic client counseling.
He has been involved in all phases of litigation, representing a wide range of companies from multinational automobile manufacturers to medical device companies to consumer products businesses.
Justin counsels domestic and international clients across various industries, including medical devices, vehicular technologies, business methods, industrial manufacturing, and consumer goods. He provides strategic advice through freedom-to-operate analyses and opinions addressing validity and infringement of utility and design patents.
Justin has also drafted and prosecuted patent applications involving mechanical and electrical technologies; and brought and defended against patentability attacks before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Justin devotes a large portion of his time to pro bono work, focusing on asylum representation through Human Rights First. Recently, he successfully represented an Iranian family fleeing political persecution. Justin has also handed landlord-tenant disputes, and assisted army veterans in their appeals for disability benefits.
Prior to joining Finnegan, Justin was a patent examiner at the USPTO, handling U.S. and international patent applications relating to refrigeration and automatic temperature and humidity regulation. He also worked as a mechanical engineer in the iron producing division of a steel mill in Maryland.
