Margaret Eileen Simpson joined Meriwether & Tharp, LLC in August of 2015, with over six years of family law experience. Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Margaret attended college at the University of Montevallo majoring in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law. After graduating magna cum laude from college in 2005, Margaret earned her Juris Doctorate degree at the University of Alabama School of Law in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
During law school, Margaret worked as a law clerk and gained valuable experience in the areas of family law, consumer protection, and employment discrimination. Margaret graduated from law school and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 2008.
After law school, Margaret returned to her hometown where she served as law clerk to the senior judge of Montgomery County’s Family Court Division. Margaret was appointed as Special Master and presided over preliminary hearings in domestic relations cases.
Margaret heard evidence and made written recommendations to the judge regarding temporary custody, child support and alimony issues. Margaret also recruited, trained and supervised interns and volunteers who assisted with performing legal research and drafting final orders in divorce, paternity and modification cases.
Margaret moved to Atlanta and was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 2011. She worked as an Associate Attorney with Edwards & Associates where she practiced exclusively family law for four years. Margaret represented clients in trials and mediations in Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb, DeKalb, Cherokee, Forsyth, Clayton, and Newton counties.
In addition to pursuing justice for children and families, Margaret enjoys cooking, gardening, and playing trivia games.
